第一、釋名者，所以名識處者，捨空緣識，以識為處，正從所緣處受名，故名識處。

First, explaining the name: the reason it is called the sphere of consciousness is that one relinquishes space and conditions consciousness, taking consciousness as the sphere; it takes its name directly from the conditioned sphere, and is therefore called the sphere of consciousness.
