6.24

答曰：此逐義便，不隨次第。譬如佛十弟子各有第一，若問何人智慧第一，應答身子是。若以夏臘大而答第一者，則於義大僻。

Answer: This follows the suitability of meaning and does not follow the sequence. For example, among the Buddha's ten disciples, each was foremost in something; if one asks who is foremost in wisdom, one should answer that it is Śāriputra. If one were to answer that he is foremost based on having spent the greatest number of rains retreats, it would be a gross distortion of meaning.
