6.54

行者作是觀已，即發願言：「願諸眾生一切諸苦悉皆除滅，受樂歡喜，我於定中悉皆得見。」作是願已，即入禪定，用念清淨心取於親人，從苦得脫，受樂歡喜相，一心觀之，令於念心的的分明，見於親人受歡樂相，其心悅豫，欣慶無量。次緣中人、怨人，乃至十方、五道眾生受喜之相，心生慶悅。是則略明修喜方法。

Having made this contemplation, the practitioner then makes an aspiration, saying: 'May all the sufferings of all sentient beings be entirely eliminated, and may they experience happiness, delight, and joy; may I see all of this within absorption.' Having made this aspiration, they immediately enter dhyāna absorption, and with a mind of pure mindfulness, take the sign of dear ones being freed from suffering and experiencing happiness, delight, and joy, contemplating it with single-mindedness so that it becomes distinctly clear in their mindful awareness. Seeing the sign of dear ones experiencing delight and joy, their mind is cheerful and rejoices immeasurably. Next, they focus on neutral persons, hostile persons, and finally sentient beings of the ten directions and the five destinies experiencing the sign of sympathetic joy, and their mind gives rise to rejoicing and gladness. This is a brief explanation of the method of cultivating sympathetic joy.
