Tenth, causing the mind to concentrate: this corresponds to the factor of ekāgratā of the second dhyāna. Why is this? Because the joy of the second dhyāna stirs and requires concentration, it is called causing the mind to concentrate. Now clarifying concentration: precisely through destroying the former false joy, the joy of the awakening factor of joy arises; although this joy is correct, it is not without the fault of surging agitation, and one should immediately turn back to contemplate the nature of joy. Once one knows that it is ultimately empty and tranquil, the mind in absorption is undisturbed and does not follow the movement of joy; therefore it is called 'causing to concentrate.' Thus the Mahāsaṃnipāta Sūtra says: 'Movement reaches the mind.'
