Second, scolding desire for sound: namely, the sounds of konghou, zithers, flutes, strings and bamboo, metal and stone musical instruments, as well as the songs, chants, and praises of men and women, which can cause ordinary persons, upon hearing them, to become tainted with attachment and give rise to various evil deeds. For example, five hundred ṛṣis dwelling in the Snow Mountains, upon hearing the singing of Kinnara maidens, immediately lost their dhyāna-concentration, their minds drunken and madly distracted. Through such various conditions, know the faults and transgressions of sound, as extensively explained in the Mahāyāna [Treatise].
