Furthermore, just as a wheel will never turn on its own without oxen to drive it, the same is true of the dhyāna-concentrations of the five wheels. Although each stage has its various sublime merits, if one does not take the realization of reality as the guide and cultivate with non-attachment, there will be hindrances at stage after stage, thereby going against the function of a wheel. Now, because the practitioner skillfully cultivates the realization of reality with non-attachment, they can turn from the initial mind all the way to the ultimate fruit, and the function of the wheel is then accomplished. Therefore, the Lotus Sūtra says: "Sentient beings are attached everywhere; I lead them to emerge." One should know that if practitioners skillfully cultivate the gate of cessation, they will be able to fully possess the dhyāna-concentrations of the five wheels and realize the noble fruits of the three vehicles.
