When practitioners see such various auspicious signs and bring forth various wholesome minds, this is not dhyāna-concentration. For the most part, it is because they cultivated various merits with a distracted mind in past lives or the present life, and now, through the power of the tranquil mind, those events are enabled to arise. The appearance of various manifested forms all belongs to the signs of retributive causes becoming manifest; the unfolding of the wholesome mind is entirely the arising of wholesome habitual causes. Such instances are numerous and cannot be fully spoken of; this merely outlines the general idea.
