3. Explaining the arising of the wholesome roots of contemplating breaths: also within the subtle and tranquil mind of the desire realm and anāgamya, one suddenly sees one's own breath entering and leaving through the pores, unobstructed throughout the whole body, gradually becoming distinct and keen, like seeing the layers of skin through gauze, and the same with the bones and flesh; one also sees the eighty thousand families of worms within the body—their coarse and fine, long and short [forms], and their sounds and voices. The joy and happiness of the concentrated mind is double that described above. Or one sees one's own body like a plantain tree, a mass of foam, or the appearance of a cloud shadow. These are the signs of the wholesome roots of the contemplation of penetrating clarity arising.
