Second, explaining the manifestation of the benevolence absorption. Because the power of the practitioner's dhyāna absorption, wisdom, and meritorious good roots is pure, when they thus single-mindedly and benevolently contemplate sentient beings, samādhi immediately manifests. Due to the power of samādhi, within the absorbed mind they immediately perceive the characteristic of the beloved dear person experiencing happiness—body and mind delighting, countenance harmonious and content, distinctly clear. Having seen the dear person attain happiness in this way, next they see neutral persons and even hostile persons likewise. Within the absorbed mind they see one person, next they see ten persons, a thousand persons, ten thousand million, one village, one country, one Jambudvīpa, one world of four continents, up to all sentient beings in the worlds of the ten directions, all experiencing happiness. As the practitioner in absorption sees external persons experiencing happiness, internal absorption becomes increasingly profound, concordant with the external, tranquil and unmoving; this is called a mind accompanied by benevolence. That is, it is accompanied by sensation, perception, volition, consciousness, aggregates, sense bases, and elements, as previously stated.
