As for being conditioned upon phenomena: the arhats whose defilements are exhausted, pratyekabuddhas, and Buddhas—because these noble ones have destroyed the characteristic of a self and extinguished the characteristics of oneness and difference—merely contemplate arising in succession from causes and conditions. When benevolently contemplating sentient beings, [perceiving that] from the succession of harmonious causes and conditions, only empty five aggregates are the sentient being, they are mindful of these five aggregates. While benevolently contemplating sentient beings who do not know this emptiness of phenomena, and that sentient beings constantly and single-mindedly desire to obtain happiness, the noble ones pity them and cause them to obtain happiness as they wish; because it is for the sake of conventional phenomena, it is called conditioned upon phenomena.
