As for being without conditions: this benevolence belongs only to the Buddhas. Why? The Buddhas do not abide in conditioned or unconditioned natures; they do not rely on upper, lower, past, future, or present; knowing all causes and conditions to be unreal, inverted, false, and deceptive, their minds are without any conditions. The Buddhas, because sentient beings do not know this true nature of all phenomena, transmigrate through the five destinies, their minds attached to phenomena, making discriminations of grasping and rejection, use this wisdom of the true nature of all phenomena to cause sentient beings to attain it; this is called being without conditions. For example, in providing relief to poor people, one may give wealth, gold, silver, and jewels, or give a wish-fulfilling jewel. Being conditioned upon sentient beings, conditioned upon phenomena, and without conditions are also like this. This meaning is explained in detail in the Mahāyāna [Treatise].
