Furthermore, benevolence conditioned upon sentient beings merely perceives the characteristic of experiencing retributional happiness; benevolence conditioned upon phenomena perceives the characteristic of experiencing the various Dharma gates and the happiness of nirvāṇa; benevolence without conditions perceives the equal characteristic of all identically possessing the constant happiness of Buddha-nature. Furthermore, benevolence conditioned upon sentient beings is within fundamental dhyāna; benevolence conditioned upon phenomena is mostly within the undefiled dhyānas of sublime practices, penetrating clarity, and liberations; benevolence without conditions is mostly in the Śūraṅgama, Lotus Samādhi, and the nine kinds of dhyāna.
