Third, explaining the prīti factor. Regarding the prīti factor, the sūtra states: 'Knowing in accordance with reality and great knowing, the mind moves to the utmost mind; this is called prīti.' 'Knowing in accordance with reality' is the aforementioned observing of the nature of the mind and the true principle of the four truths. 'Great knowing' is the observational practice as described above. If the mind investigates thoroughly and rests fixed within the conditions, knowing in conformity with observation, it is therefore said to 'know in accordance with reality.' If one suddenly awakens, knowing in conformity with principle, and the mind gives rise to Dharma-joy, it is called 'great knowing.' As for 'the mind moves to the utmost mind': having attained Dharma-joy, the mind is stirred; if one follows this joy, it becomes an inversion. Now, comprehending that this joy is absent, one attains the nature of joy. Because one attains the nature of joy, it is called the 'utmost mind'; this is called prīti.
