Fourth, next is the explanation of the factor of ease. Regarding the factor of ease, the sūtra states: 'If there is bodily ease, mental ease, experiential ease, receiving the contact of pleasure, this is called ease.' 'Bodily ease' means that because one penetrates the nature of the body, one is not moved by bodily karma, thereby attaining bodily ease; hence it is called bodily ease. 'Mental ease' means that because one penetrates the nature of the mind, one is not moved by mental karma, thereby attaining mental joy; hence it is called mental ease. 'Experiential ease' means that the mind capable of observing is called 'experience' (vedanā); knowing that experience is non-experience and severing all experiences is called 'pleasure'; hence it is called experiential ease. 'Receiving the contact of pleasure' means that the two kinds of pleasurable dharmas, mundane and supramundane, are accomplished; when pleasurable dharmas confront the mind, one therefore experiences pleasure.
