Second, as for recollection of the Dharma: The practitioner should recollect that this Dharma skillfully leads out [of saṃsāra], attains its fruit in the present life, is free of all fevers of affliction, does not depend on time, can reach the good state, and penetrates through without obstruction. 'Skillfully leads out' means that it skillfully teaches the two truths without mutual contradiction; because this Dharma can lead out of the two extremes, it is called 'skillfully leads out'. 'Attains its fruit in the present life' means that the dharmas of all non-Buddhists have no fruit in the present life, whereas only within the Buddha-Dharma do causes and conditions arise successively. That is to say: because of pure adherence to precepts, one attains a mind free of remorse; because one attains a mind free of remorse, legal joy arises; because legal joy arises, one attains mental pleasure; because one attains mental pleasure, one can collect the mind; because one collects the mind, one attains knowledge of reality; because one attains knowledge of reality, one attains revulsion; because one attains revulsion, one attains dispassion; because of dispassion, one attains liberation; because of the fruit of liberation, one attains nirvāṇa. This is called attaining the fruit and retribution in the present life.
