As for the faults and perils of sentient beings, all sentient beings suffer the affliction of the eight sufferings, with nothing worthy of greedy attachment. Furthermore, contemplating that because sentient beings have much greed and desire, they do not discern the good from the ugly, just like birds and beasts; because their anger and resentment are heavy, they even fail to accept the Buddha's words, do not revere hearing the Dharma, and do not fear the evil destinies; because their ignorance is profound, what they seek is contrary to reason, and they do not recognize the honorable and lowly; or they are stingy and greedy, arrogant, jealous, perverse and obstinate, flattering and deceitful, slanderous and treacherous, harbor wrong views, lack faith, and are ungrateful; or because their sinful karma is heavy, they commit the five heinous crimes, do not revere the Three Jewels, and disparage good persons. In the world, good sentient beings are exceedingly few, while base and evil ones are many; deeply contemplating such afflictions, faults, and perils, one should produce revulsion and detachment, and one should not be intimately attached to them in this way.
