To destroy such unwholesome dharmas of the covering of stinginess, the practitioner cultivates four kinds of dānapāramitā. First, knowing that the breath is empty and not the self, and that apart from breath there is also no self—since the self is not apprehended, for what purpose would one amass wealth and goods to sustain it? At that time, the mind of stinginess regarding wealth naturally ceases, and one discards treasures as if spitting out saliva. Know that thoroughly penetrating the nature of breath is itself the dānapāramitā of giving wealth.
