偈云「今承三寶力」下一行，明已歸命三寶竟，今當承三寶之力，起三十六問。然三十六問明義略周，故有三十六也。若隨緣對事辯問，則不可數也。

The one line following the verse 'Now relying on the power of the Three Jewels' explains that, having already taken refuge in the Three Jewels, he will now rely on the power of the Three Jewels to raise thirty-six questions. The thirty-six questions are broadly comprehensive in explaining the meaning; thus there are thirty-six. If one were to distinguish questions in accordance with conditions and matters, they would be countless.
