Question: From here on, why does the treatise continually say, 'If one does not know how to inquire into the contemplation of mind, the myriad practices all fail; if one can inquire into the contemplation of mind, the myriad practices all succeed'? / Answer: The Prajñāpāramitā Sūtra says: 'Prajñā can guide the five pāramitās up to the myriad practices, enabling one to reach the Buddha fruition. If there is no prajñā to guide them, the myriad practices are all deviant and inverted.' Now it is clarified that being able to inquire into the contemplation of mind is cultivating prajñā; it is cultivating the four smṛtyupasthānas and the perfect three contemplations. Guided by this contemplation, the myriad practices are all correct; without its guidance, they are deviant. Therefore, from beginning to end, the treatise continually speaks of 'inquiring into the contemplation of mind'.
