一、覺支。初心在緣名為覺。行者依未到地發初禪，色界清淨色法觸欲界身根，心大驚悟，爾時即生身識，覺此色觸未曾有功德利益，故名覺支。

First, the factor of initial application. The initial mind being directed to the cognitive object is named initial application. When the practitioner, relying on the threshold stage, gives rise to the first dhyāna, the pure material dharmas of the form realm touch the body faculty of the desire realm, and the mind is greatly startled and awakened. At that time, body-consciousness arises immediately, sensing that this tangible form has unprecedented virtuous qualities and benefits; therefore it is named the factor of initial application.
