九、心作喜。修特勝者，離初禪、入二禪時，常自照了。因是若發二禪內淨喜，則真喜從觀慧而生，故名心作喜。若對念處，從此有三特勝，並屬心念處觀也。

9. Gladdening the mind. When one who cultivates the superior stages leaves the first dhyāna and enters the second dhyāna, one constantly illuminates by oneself. Because of this, if internal purity and joy of the second dhyāna arise, true joy arises from contemplative wisdom; hence it is named 'gladdening the mind.' Correlated with the bases of mindfulness, from here there are three superior stages, all belonging to the contemplation of mindfulness of the mind.
