3.85

一、聞持陀羅尼。得此陀羅尼者，一切語言諸法，耳所聞者皆不忘失。所謂十方諸佛及弟子眾有所演說，一時能聞，憶持不忘，故名聞持陀羅尼，即是名持。

First is the hearing-and-retaining dhāraṇī (śrutadhara-dhāraṇī). One who attains this dhāraṇī does not forget any words or dharmas heard by the ear. That is to say, whatever the Buddhas of the ten directions and the assemblies of disciples expound, one is able to hear at one time and mindfully retain without forgetting; hence it is named the hearing-and-retaining dhāraṇī, which is retention of names.
