Fourth is the truth of the path. The path has the meaning of being able to lead through. The noble path and the auxiliary path mutually support one another, being able to lead through to nirvāṇa; hence it is called the 'path'. As for the noble path, the genuine contemplation of the thirty-seven aids to awakening and the three gates of liberation, the practice of wisdom that takes principle as its object, is called the noble path. The headings will be presented immediately below. As for the auxiliary path, the various antidotes and dhyānas and concentrations obtained in contemplative understanding are all the auxiliary path, fully presented as above. Furthermore, regarding the noble path: the eight patiences and eight cognitions—the sixteen minds of seeing the truths—and the nine unhindered and nine liberation minds—the eighteen minds of cultivation—which are true untainted wisdom, are called the noble path. The remaining expedient antidotes, the various dhyānas and samādhis, as well as the thirty-seven aids, three gates of liberation, and so on, are all the auxiliary path. These two paths mutually support each other and can lead to nirvāṇa; being thoroughly verified and not vain, it is called the truth of the path.
