Ninth: the pure and pristine dhyāna. What is the bodhisattva's pure and pristine dhyāna? In brief, there are ten kinds: first, the worldly pure and pristine dhyāna that is untasted and undefiled; second, the supramundane pure and pristine dhyāna; third, the expedient pure and pristine dhyāna; fourth, the pure and pristine dhyāna of attaining the root; fifth, the pure and pristine dhyāna of attaining the superior progress upon the root; sixth, the pure and pristine dhyāna of the power to abide and emerge; seventh, the pure and pristine dhyāna of the power to relinquish and re-enter; eighth, the pure and pristine dhyāna of the power exercised by superknowledges; ninth, the pure and pristine dhyāna that departs from all views; tenth, the pure and pristine dhyāna of severing afflictive and cognitive obscurations. Through such immeasurable dhyānas, the bodhisattva attains the fruit of great awakening; relying upon these, the bodhisattva attains anuttarā-samyak-saṃbodhi, having already attained it or to attain it in the future.
