Fourth, distinguishing the distinctive and perfect in terms of Dharma gates: In the distinctive teaching's clarification of stages matching various Dharma gates, not only are the Dharma gates not perfect, but in terms of stages there are also delimitations. As the Daśabhūmika Treatise states: 'The first bhūmi is complete in dāna-pāramitā; it is not that one does not cultivate the rest, but merely according to one's power and measure; this meaning has remainder.' The perfect teaching's clarification of the various Dharma gates is not like this: a single Dharma gate is complete in all Dharma gates, and all penetrate directly to the Buddha stage.
