Second, clarifying the four teachings that elucidate the principle of the three truths has four points: First, the Tripiṭaka teaching only elucidates the principle of the two truths; therefore, those who receive this teaching do not hear of the eternal Buddha-nature of nirvāṇa, and the three vehicles still preserve the fruit of extinction into ash. Second, the shared teaching also only elucidates the principle of the two truths; therefore, those who receive this teaching also do not hear of the eternal Buddha-nature of nirvāṇa, and the three vehicles still preserve the fruit of extinction into ash. Third, the distinctive teaching distinctly elucidates the principle of the three truths; therefore, for those who receive this teaching, the thirty stages of mind merely accomplish the expedient path of the wisdom of the two contemplations, and only upon ascending the grounds do they behold the Buddha-nature and enter the flow of the Dharma. Fourth, the perfect teaching perfectly elucidates the principle of the three truths; therefore, for those who receive this teaching, with the initial mind they immediately open the Buddha's knowledge and vision, naturally flowing into the ocean of sarvajñā.
