初十信者，十心之中以信為本，故云十信。十心者，一信、二念、三精進、四慧、五定、六不退、七迴向、八護法、九戒、十願，即是外凡伏忍位也。住、行、向三並屬內凡柔順忍位。

First, the ten faiths: among the ten minds, faith is the root, hence they are called the ten faiths. The ten minds are: first, faith; second, mindfulness; third, vigor; fourth, wisdom; fifth, concentration; sixth, non-retrogression; seventh, dedication; eighth, protection of the Dharma; ninth, precepts; tenth, vows. These are the stages of patient acceptance through subduing of the external ordinary person. The three—abodes, practices, and dedications—all belong to the stage of pliant patient acceptance of the internal ordinary person.
