弟子總持和南。仰違移歲馳誠載勞，兼事入朝彌增延屬。武關雖阻荊近於吳，是以暫停陝州，遣使承接。行人返命，具奉覼縷，非唯年尊疾動，又以結夏安居，理事相推固須停止。弟子還鎮非久，便願沿流仰會江都，庶應旦夕將聖德果，亦復差機。因緣多端，請不勞慮。謹和南。九月十日。

Your disciple Zongchi bows in veneration. Having been parted from you for a year, my sincere longings have indeed been wearying; furthermore, my duties of entering court to attend an audience have all the more increased my yearning. Although the Wu Pass presents obstacles, Jing is close to Wu. Therefore, I paused briefly in Shanzhou and dispatched an envoy to greet you. The envoy has returned with his report, fully conveying every detail. Not only has your venerable age brought an onset of illness, but you are also observing the summer retreat. Balancing principles and practicalities, it is indeed necessary that you remain where you are. Your disciple will not be long in returning to his post, whereupon I hope to follow the river down to meet with you in Jiangdu, looking forward from morning to night to welcoming your sacred virtue. It is also a difference in timing and conditions; the causes and conditions are manifold, so please do not weary yourself with worry. Respectfully bowing in veneration. Ninth month, tenth day.
