The Fuxing clearly distinguishes the two makings first, specifically instructing the practitioner to only contemplate that which is made in principle as all empty, provisional, and middle. You, Reverend Sir, stubbornly compel people to universally contemplate that which is made in phenomena—how can you suppress the teaching to follow personal feelings to such an extreme? If internal principle contemplation were directly to take external phenomenal making as its object, upon what dharma would consciousness-only contemplation operate? Upon what dharma would form-only contemplation operate? This is because from the time you began listening to lectures up to becoming a master, you have completely failed to understand the two makings of phenomena and principle, as well as the two objects of internal and external, and consequently you have mistakenly taken the external object of phenomenal making to be the inherent possession in principle within the mind.
