不二門云：凡所觀境不出內外。外謂託彼依正色心，實不云託彼教相；內觀一念識心，實不依教相而觀。恐是宗師立境未盡故，上人更立教相為境耶？

The Gate of Non-Duality states: 'Whatever object is contemplated does not go beyond the internal and external.' 'External' refers to entrusting to those external retributions of form and mind; it certainly does not speak of entrusting to those teaching characteristics. 'Internal' means contemplating the single thought-moment of conscious mind; it certainly does not contemplate by relying on teaching characteristics. Could it be that because the ancestral master's establishment of the object was incomplete, your Reverence additionally established teaching characteristics as the object?
