豈非觀心只是以理結事，何曾云指示初學於止觀中修行？何曾云令久修者不忘本習？蓋被前後徵詰，故乃巧立二意遮前過非。又豈知二意却是須立觀心一科也。

Does this not mean that contemplation of the mind is merely concluding phenomena with principle? When did it ever say that it points out to beginners to cultivate practice in the Zhiguan? When did it ever say that it causes long-practicing ones not to forget their original training? Having been questioned and challenged repeatedly, he cleverly devised two intentions to ward off his previous errors. Yet how could he know that these two intentions actually require establishing the section on contemplating the mind?
