Yet the Shizhu zhi, in explaining the three dharmas, grasps only the sense in which the mind-dharma is sentient beings and buddhas; it completely fails to grasp how those various sentient beings are sentient beings and buddhas, or how those various buddhas are sentient beings and buddhas. Therefore its explanation states: "A buddha is called true awakening; a sentient being is called unawakening. Mind is simply the mind of sentient beings and buddhas; apart from sentient beings and buddhas, there is no separate mind that serves as the root of sentient beings and buddhas. The sūtra indicates that root and branch, cause and effect, are non-dual; hence it says 'the three are without differentiation'" (the text from "a buddha is called" onwards is from the Zhuzhi).
