上人始暫脫我人、略尋法義，為是鄙僧乖理？為是上人違宗？鄙僧為生淨土故探玄，為出生死故講授，實不敢以己之短掩人之長，實不敢將已墮之義抑他必當之宗。唯諸聖可鑒，諒群彥亦知。惟願上人退思矣，惟願上人順理矣。

If you, Reverend, would only temporarily cast off the notions of self and other and briefly examine the doctrinal principles: is it this humble monk who deviates from the principle, or is it you, Reverend, who goes against the lineage? This humble monk probes the profound to attain birth in the Pure Land, and teaches to escape from birth and death; I truly dare not use my own shortcomings to obscure another's strengths, nor do I dare use a fallen thesis to suppress another's unfailing tenet. May only the holy ones bear witness; surely all the eminent ones know this as well. My only wish is that you, Reverend, reflect in retreat; my only wish is that you, Reverend, accord with the principle.
