此豈非不以心佛眾生為所託境界，但直緣平等之理，無高無下，等佛等生耶？若其然者，乃以直心為境，等佛等生。以此驗之。上人何曾知所觀之心是下凡妄念，依此而研理性耶？

Is this not failing to take the mind, the Buddha, and sentient beings as the objective sphere to be relied upon, but instead directly focusing on the equal principle—without high or low, equalling the Buddha and equalling sentient beings? If so, you take the direct mind as the object, equalling the Buddha and equalling sentient beings. Examining it by this: when did you, Reverend, ever know that the mind to be contemplated is the deluded thought of ordinary beings below, and investigate the nature of the principle on this basis?
