法師應於放生之處不近不遠敷座而坐，若有徒眾，亦於其傍列位坐之。各以慈眼悲心視諸眾生，念其沈淪深起哀慜，復念三寶有大威力能救拔之。作是觀已，法師當執水盂默念想云：一心奉請。大穢跡金剛聖者潛降道場，加持此水，有大功勳。洒沾異類，令其身心清淨，堪聞妙法。即默誦穢跡真言一七遍，再三洒之。然後執手爐白云：

The Dharma master should spread a seat and sit neither too close nor too far from the place where living beings are to be released; if there are disciples, they too should sit arranged in ranks at the side. Each with eyes of kindness and a heart of compassion should look upon all sentient beings, consider their sinking and drowning, give rise to deep pity, and further consider that the Three Jewels possess great majestic power capable of rescuing them. Having made this contemplation, the Dharma master should take up the water basin and silently contemplate, thinking: “With single mind I reverently invoke the Great Saint Ucchuṣma Vajra to descend secretly to the bodhimaṇḍa and empower this water with great efficacy. Sprinkling it upon these other kinds of beings, may their bodies and minds become pure, so that they are capable of hearing the wondrous Dharma.” He then silently recites the Ucchuṣma dhāraṇī seven times and sprinkles it repeatedly. Then, holding the hand censer, he speaks as follows:
