The Master's taboo name was Yitong and his courtesy name was Weiyuan; his virtuous deeds are detailed in his biographical accounts. He was originally from the royal clan of the maritime realm of Goryeo, with the surname Yun. His mother was of the Shu clan; his conception and birth were quite wondrous, wherefore he was given to Guishan Cloister, taking the Śākya clan as his master. When he came of age and took the dye, he received full ordination and transmitted the Avataṃsaka and Awakening of Faith, which he particularly looked up to. When he reached adulthood, he travelled to the central kingdom, during the Jin and [Later] Han and Zhou dynasties. Arriving, he first visited Yunju to attain awakening, and next called upon Master [Xi]ji of Luoxi to master the Tiantai school; having found the very source of the Way, the reputation of his integrated embodiment spread far and wide, and it was said: "The study of the perfect and sudden has reached its culmination in this track! I wish to use this to guide those who have not yet heard it, and it must surely begin from the land of my birth, thus gathering it in." Heading east, his route passed through Siming. Grand Preceptor Lord Qian Weizhi inquired of him about the essential of mind, repeatedly appointing him as preceptor. Following this, monks and laity earnestly yearned for him, requesting him to remain as their reliance. The Master said: "This was not my original intention." The Duke said: "Whether one is checked or sent forth is not within the power of this disciple. If you speak of benefiting sentient beings, why must it be Jilin? Since the conditions align with you, do not decline my plea." He thereupon stayed. It happened that the Transport Commissioner Gu Chenghui donated his residence as a place for transmitting the Way, only requesting the name plaque "Baoyun" to manifest its auspiciousness. Thereafter, day after day he propagated the doctrinal teaching and contemplation for over two decades; Zhili and Zunshi were the most eminent of his students, and the others who ascended the hall and entered the gate were beyond counting. All of his writings have been lost and not transmitted. Alas! The gentleman says: "The sudden revival of the Tiantai Way was through the Master's efforts." His secular age was sixty-two. On the eighteenth day of the tenth month in the year wuzi, the first year of the Duanhong era, he manifested illness, and after three days passed away on his left side. After the cremation, his disciples collected his bones and enshrined them on the sunny side of Mount Aśoka, in the northwest corner of the monastery, in accordance with propriety. Seventy-seven years later, the brick masonry had become overgrown; they went to it and piled it up into a square tomb, increasing the prominence of the site. At that time, it was the fifth generation of the August Song, the year jiachen, the year following the accession of the Heavenly King, the tenth day of the late spring in the first year of the Zhiping era. Recorded by his Dharma great-grandson (Zongzheng).
