In the Qingyuan era, the year being gengshen, on the first day of the [...] month. The monk Shanyue, reverent successor to the patriarch of this mountain gate, respectfully undertook the restoration of the statue. The work being completed, I have reverently purified myself and composed this inscription, placing it inside the reliquary chamber of our reviver and founding patriarch, Venerable Fazhi, the Great Ancestral Master. Respectfully I reflect that our patriarch, endowed with spiritual gifts as a son of the Buddha, was born into the great Song. Borne upon the power of his original vows, his resolve lay in widespread transmission. Reflecting on the doctrinal teaching and contemplation of our mountain gate's single school, it had recently met with misfortune and was almost wiped from the earth. Truly, relying on our patriarch, who had authentic inheritance, the correct transmission of the lineage was preserved. That people from the four directions now know the Way of our Siming, and that this bodhimaṇḍa of ours continues to be transmitted and expounded endlessly without interruption, is entirely due to the merit of our patriarch's revival and the power of his vows. For this reason, we have revered his portrait-statue and offered worship for many days. It had occasionally been repainted once or twice. At that time, the lay believer of Dongxi had previously obtained the remains of our patriarch's holy bones and kept them at home for a long time. One night he was moved by a dream and dared not keep them privately, so he returned them to our patriarch and placed them inside the statue; this was truly on the twenty-third day of the eleventh month in the seventh year of the Qingli era. Later, it was re-adorned in the dingchou year of the Shaoxing era, on the very same month and day. Now, having passed through many years again, the dry-lacquer fabric had decayed and worn through, hardly serving to illuminate the former virtue or provide a model for later generations. Thereupon, artisans were again instructed to restore and color it. May the divine spirit of our patriarch never fade, his vow-power remain ever fresh, and perpetually protect this mountain, remaining with us from beginning to end. On the day of its enshrinement, I reverently bowed and prostrated together with the mountain community, respectfully adding an inscription that reads:
