"Disciples of the Buddha, [so-and-so] and the entire assembly, listen attentively! You now, in my presence, seek to receive all the pure precepts of bodhisattvas and all the bodhisattva trainings—namely, the precept of restraining discipline, the precept of gathering virtuous dharmas, and the precept of benefiting sentient beings. These pure precepts and trainings have already been received, studied, understood, practiced, and accomplished by all bodhisattvas of the past; will be received, studied, understood, practiced, and accomplished by all bodhisattvas of the future; and are being received, studied, understood, practiced, and accomplished by all bodhisattvas of the present, who will become buddhas in the future. From your present bodies until you attain the body of a Buddha, during the interim you must not violate them. Are you able to uphold them (said three times; all answer: 'I am able to uphold them')?"
