「觀世音菩薩白佛言：『世尊！若諸眾生誦持大悲神呪墮三惡道者，我誓不成正覺。誦持大悲神呪，若不生諸佛國者，我誓不成正覺。誦持大悲神呪，若不得無量三昧辨才者，我誓不成正覺。誦持大悲神呪，於現在生中，一切所求若不果遂者，不得為大悲心陀羅尼也。』」乃至說是語已，於眾會前合掌正住，於諸眾生起大悲心，開顏含笑，即說如是廣大圓滿無閡大悲心大陀羅尼神妙章句陀羅尼曰：

"Avalokiteśvara Bodhisattva said to the Buddha: 'World-Honoured One! If any sentient beings who recite and uphold the great compassionate mantra fall into the three evil destinies, I vow not to attain right awakening. If those who recite and uphold the great compassionate mantra are not born in the Buddha-lands, I vow not to attain right awakening. If those who recite and uphold the great compassionate mantra do not attain boundless samādhis and eloquence, I vow not to attain right awakening. If for those who recite and uphold the great compassionate mantra, everything they seek in their present life is not fulfilled, it may not be called the Dhāraṇī of the Great Compassionate Heart.'" ...up to: Having spoken these words, before the assembly he joined his palms and stood upright, gave rise to great compassion toward all sentient beings, smiled radiantly, and thereupon uttered this dhāraṇī of the miraculous phrases of the Vast, Perfect, Unimpeded, Great Compassionate Heart Great Dhāraṇī, saying:
