If one recites this mantra, wherever one stays, immeasurable Buddhas, bodhisattvas, devas, dragons, and the rest of the eight classes of beings will assemble. One will also possess immeasurable samādhi Dharma doors. Seven generations of the reciter's clan will all attain liberation, and the worms within their belly will attain the stage of a bodhisattva. Day after day, this person will possess the fulfilled merit of the six pāramitās and attain inexhaustible eloquence and an assembly of pure wisdom. When the breath emitted from their mouth touches another person's body, whoever is touched will be freed from all poisons of anger and will attain the stage of a bodhisattva. Even if all beings in the four continents attained the stage of a seventh-ground bodhisattva, all the merit of those bodhisattvas would be equal and no different from the merit of reciting the Six-Syllable Mantra once. This mantra is the subtle original mind of Avalokiteśvara Bodhisattva; if someone writes out these Six Great Luminant Syllables, it is identical to writing out the eighty-four thousand Dharma treasuries, and the merit obtained is equal and no different. If one were to make statues of the Tathāgata with gold and jewels in numbers as many as fine dust motes, it would not equal the merit of writing out a single syllable among these six syllables. If someone obtains these Six Great Luminant Syllables, greed, anger, and delusion cannot defile them. If one wears and carries this mantra upon one's body, one will likewise not be defiled by the illnesses of greed, anger, and delusion. All sentient beings touched by the body or hands, or seen by the eyes of the person who wears and carries it, will quickly attain the stage of a bodhisattva and will never again suffer the pains of birth, old age, sickness, and death. When the exposition of these Six Great Luminant Syllables was finished, seventy-seven koṭis of Buddhas manifested simultaneously before them and proclaimed the Cundī mantra in unison. Thus one knows that these Six Great Luminant Syllables and the Cundī mantra are interdependent in sequence. (Expounded extensively as in the Kāraṇḍavyūha Sūtra.)
