答曰：「汝謂一形惡業為重，以下品人十念之善以為輕者。今當以義挍量輕、重之義者，正明在心、在緣、在決定，不在時節久近、多少也。

I reply: You consider an entire lifetime of evil karma to be heavy, and consider the ten recitations of good performed by a person of the lowest grade to be light. Now, we should weigh the meaning of heaviness and lightness by principle: it precisely lies in the mind, in the condition, and in decisiveness; it does not depend on the length or brevity of time, nor on the amount.
