How does it lie in the mind? When that person committed transgressions, they arose naturally relying on a false and inverted mind. These ten recitations arise relying on the skillful comfort of a good spiritual friend and upon hearing the Dharma of true reality. One is real and one is false—how could they be compared? Why? For example, in a room dark for a thousand years, if light temporarily enters, it immediately becomes bright. Could one say, 'Darkness that has been in the room for a thousand years will not depart'? Therefore, the *Yiri maṇibhadra-sūtra* says: 'The Buddha told Bodhisattva Kāśyapa: "Although sentient beings have been submerged in evil karma covered by transgressions within desire for several thousands of myriad kotis of kalpas, if they hear the Buddha's sūtra and turn their mind toward good for a single instant, their transgressions are entirely extinguished."' This is called lying in the mind.
