First, as for contrasting suffering and bliss, good and evil: in this Sahā world, although there are the two retributions of suffering and bliss, bliss is always scarce and suffering abundant. In severe cases, there is the searing agony of the three evil paths; in mild cases, humans and gods endure the unbroken continuity of weapons and illness, with no cessation since distant kalpas. Even if humans and gods have a little bliss, it is like foam or a flash of lightning, arising swiftly and swiftly perishing; therefore, it is called solely suffering and solely evil. In Amitābha’s Pure Land, the waters, birds, and groves constantly utter the voice of the Dharma, clearly proclaiming the teachings of the path, fully pure and immaculate, enabling one to attain awakening and entry.
