Second, as for citing sacred teachings as verification: the Jingtu lun states, 'Humans and gods of the ten directions born in that land are no different from bodhisattvas of the pure mind; bodhisattvas of the pure mind, together with bodhisattvas of the higher stages, ultimately attain the patience of cessation alike, and therefore do not retrogress again.' It also cites the forty-eight vows of the Larger Sūtra as having five great benefits: First, the Larger Sūtra states: 'If humans and gods of the ten directions who come to be born in my land are not all of the color of genuine gold, may I not attain right awakening.' Second, it states: 'If humans and gods of the ten directions who come to be born in my land have varying bodily forms, some fine and some ugly, may I not attain right awakening.' Third, it states: 'If humans and gods of the ten directions who come to be born in my land do not attain knowledge of past lives, down to not knowing the events of hundreds of thousands of koṭis of nayutas of kalpas, may I not attain right awakening.' Fourth, it states: 'If humans and gods of the ten directions who come to be born in my land do not attain the divine ear, down to not hearing and fully upholding what is spoken by hundreds of thousands of koṭis of nayutas of buddhas, may I not attain right awakening.' Fifth, it states: 'If humans and gods of the ten directions who come to be born in my land do not attain knowledge of the minds of others, down to not knowing the thoughts in the minds of sentient beings in hundreds of thousands of koṭis of nayutas of buddha lands, may I not attain right awakening.' Were one to discuss the matters of benefit in that land, it would be difficult to present them fully. One should simply vow to be born there, and it will surely be inconceivable. Therefore, that realm is solely good and solely blissful, without suffering and without evil.
