1.24

言滅罪增上緣者，即如觀經下品上生人，一生具造十惡重罪。其人得病欲死，遇善知識教稱彌陀佛一聲，即除滅五十億劫生死重罪。即是現生滅罪增上緣。

As for the predominant condition of extinguishing sins, it is just as the Guan jing says of a person of the highest tier of the lowest grade: throughout their life they fully committed the ten severe evil deeds. When that person fell ill and was about to die, they met a good spiritual friend who taught them to recite Amitābha Buddha's name once; thereupon, the grave sins of birth and death spanning fifty koṭis of kalpas were eradicated and extinguished. This is the predominant condition of extinguishing sins in the present life.
