1.39

又如《淨度三昧經》說云，佛告瓶沙大王：「若有男子女人，於月月六齋日及八王日，向天曹地府一切業道數數首過、受持齋戒者，佛勅六欲天王，各差二十五善神，常來隨逐守護持戒之人，亦不令有諸惡鬼神橫來惱害，亦無橫病死亡災障，常得安穩。」此亦是現生護念增上緣。

Furthermore, as the Jingdu sanmei jing states, the Buddha addressed King Bimbisāra: "If there are men or women who, on the monthly six fast days and the eight king days, frequently confess their faults before the heavenly bureaus, the earthly courts, and all karmic paths, and receive and maintain the fasts and precepts, the Buddha commands the heavenly kings of the six desire [heavens] each to dispatch twenty-five benevolent spirits to constantly follow, guard, and protect the person who keeps the precepts, and not allow various evil ghosts and spirits to bring untimely affliction or harm upon them, nor will there be untimely illness, death, or calamitous obstacles; they will constantly attain peace and security." This too is an adhipati-pratyaya for protection and mindfulness in the present life.
