5.19

釋曰：計此苦中修道一日可勝彼百年，然逢惡緣多劫退轉，還復遲也。彼雖百年同此一日，唯進不退，得名速證無上菩提也。如人急行，多時停息，達前所遲。於此修道一日，勝彼百年，佛不說此速證菩提也。如人緩行，中間無停住，速達前所，故名速證菩提也。

I explain: Considering it, one day of cultivating the Way in the midst of suffering here may surpass a hundred years there; however, encountering evil conditions, one regresses for many kalpas, and so it is rather slow. Although a hundred years there is identical to a single day here, one only progresses without regressing, and thus it is called 'quickly realizing unexcelled bodhi.' It is like a person who walks swiftly but rests for long periods, so that arriving at the destination ahead is delayed. Cultivating the Way here for one day surpasses a hundred years there, but the Buddha did not call this 'quickly realizing bodhi.' It is like a person who walks slowly but does not stop along the way, arriving quickly at the destination ahead; hence it is called 'quickly realizing bodhi.'
