5.20

問曰：念佛言少，習學不難。臨命終人時極迅速，又加苦惱，不能多修戒定慧等甚深佛法。未終之者，於長時中更無苦以逼迫神慮，何意不觀空無相願、修眾道品，廣學一切甚深法門，而多勸眾生唯行念佛。有何義耶？

Question: The words of buddhānusmṛti are few, and learning it is not difficult. For a person at the verge of death, time is extremely fleeting, and with the addition of suffering and affliction, they cannot cultivate much of the profound Buddha-Dharma such as morality, concentration, and wisdom. For those who have not yet reached death, during a long time there is no suffering to oppress their mental faculties; why do you not have them contemplate emptiness, signlessness, and wishlessness, cultivate the factors of awakening, and broadly study all profound Dharma gates, instead of mostly encouraging sentient beings solely to practice buddhānusmṛti? What is the meaning of this?
