問曰：何因聞十二部經首題名字，只滅千劫重罪；念佛一聲乃滅五十億劫重罪？《般若》云「聞經不逆，勝供養八百四千萬億那由他諸佛」也。

Question: Why is it that hearing the titles and names of the twelve divisions of scriptures extinguishes only heavy transgressions of a thousand kalpas, whereas reciting the Buddha['s name] with a single utterance actually extinguishes heavy transgressions of fifty billion kalpas? The Prajñā[pāramitā Sūtra] says: 'Hearing the scripture without opposing it surpasses making offerings to eight hundred and forty million billion nayutas of buddhas.'
