Answer: This matter was already answered earlier. These various sūtras are all spoken with respect to the principle of the dharmakāya. Hence the Vajracchedikā-prajñāpāramitā Sūtra states: 'That Tathāgata's wondrous form is the buddhas of the dharmakāya; the essence of the Dharma cannot be seen, and their consciousness cannot know it.' Now, contemplating the eighty-four thousand marks and signs refers to the contemplation of the nirmāṇakāya and saṃbhogakāya physical forms. If one performs this contemplation, each mark must be distinctly clear and each sign differentiated; they must not be blended into one. If someone says that all phenomena are empty and asks what principle and phenomena there could be, this is a person of great wrong views, a foolish person, an unlearned person, and a person who deceives the world; do not converse with them. Hence the Mūlamadhyamakakārikā states: 'If one sees that the Tathāgata exists, this is a person of minor wrong views. If one says that the Tathāgata does not exist, this is a person of coarse, heavy wrong views. These possess two kinds of faults: first, destroying worldly happiness; second, destroying the path to nirvāṇa.' This treatise speaks entirely with respect to principle. If spoken with respect to phenomena, seeing that the Tathāgata exists is right view, and one will definitely attain rebirth. Furthermore, the Bodhisattvabhūmi states: 'It is better to give rise to a view of existence as vast as Mount Sumeru than to give rise to a view of emptiness as small as a mustard seed.'
